Giving Up the Abbey for Lent at nowhere and everywhere
February 25, 2009 at 6pm to April 12, 2009 at 7pm
This is a non-invitation: We are not inviting you to do something, but instead into nothing. The Flagstaff Abbey will be giving itself up for Lent. We will gather after 40 days of being in the wilderness to discover what we've learned. Happy Lent...

Hi David. I am reading The Emerging Church by Dan Kimball. It is helpful. Also the Millenium Matrix. I was justing a feeling for the "post-modern-broadcast" world and he says we are entering the "digital" age. Wow, some of this I can understand a little bit and some of not at all.
I will miss my "interpreter", but then again, in this new digital age, we are never far away.
Just wanted to tell you hello and share that I am reading about this emerging church. Enjoy your summer in Minn. Peace, John

Dave--Thanks for the info. We'll be sure to check them out. We're coming to Phoenix from June 1-July 31. We're finishing Intentional Interim training at Spirit in the Desert, thinking about leadership and what church looks like for people who aren't boomers, and hanging out with Michael's parents and sister. I'm going to learn to thrash more than three chords on the guitar. Where are you now?

We're coming to Phoenix to boil our brains for sabbatical this summer. Do you know of any emergent communities in Pheonix?

Yes, Arabic is tough, Dave. I frequently get my مرحبا confused with my صديق if you know what I mean!! Well, they haven't taught us Arabic humor yet....

Judo is over in a few weeks so I can check out the Abbey, see what's up, you know?

Woah, hey, sorry it took me so long to answer your question, there. I went the summer between 10th and 11th grade. It was actually a pretty formative experience for me -- the beginning of my shift from preferring the loud church aesthetic to the quiet one.

be careful on who you are calling an elder, even though participating in Craig's graduation definitely affirms the travel of time.

As I listened to this I couldn't help but to wonder what this could look like from an ecclesiological perspective. It reminded me of the 'differentiated unity' stuff in our description, what we're about at the abbey and what i hear going on in the emergent world...a sharing of the gifts to express something altogether… Continue
